The artist

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (Leiden, July 15, 1606 - Amsterdam, October 4, 1669) was a Dutch painter, etcher and draftsman. He is generally regarded as one of the greatest painters and etchers in European art, and as the most important Dutch master of the 17th century. Rembrandt made a total of about three hundred paintings, three hundred etchings and two thousand drawings. His remarkable mastery of the play with light and dark, often using sharp contrasts (chiaroscuro) to introduce the viewer into the performance, led to lively scenes full of drama.

Rembrandt mainly regarded himself as a history and portrait painter. He was a confident man and made self-portraits admired by everyone in all stages of life, but especially after 1660; the hundred painted and twenty etched self-portraits give a remarkably sharp image of his appearance and a suspicion of his feelings. Rembrandt portrayed himself as the apostle Paul and portrayed himself as a king from the East in his self-portrait from 1658. In addition to his wife Saskia van Uylenburgh and his son Titus van Rijn, his housekeeper / girlfriend Hendrickje Stoffels is also present in his paintings; they have served as models for Biblical, mythological or historical figures.

In this webshop we have many products with images of paintings and etchings by Rembrandt. We supply many products to Het Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam, this is the house where he lived and where he had his studio. But also at the Rijksmuseum where of course a lot of work by Rembrandt hangs: such as The Night Watch and The Jewish Bride.
We have products with the etchings Rembrandt made, but also many with paintings that Rembrandt painted.
