Paul Cézanne, born in 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, is often considered the founder of modern painting. His pioneering use of color and perspective laid the foundation for later movements such as Cubism. Instead of using color solely for beauty, Cézanne revealed the underlying structure of nature, with a subtle interplay of warm and cool tones. His paintings, often with angular shapes, formed the basis for Cubism, and although his work was not always initially appreciated, icons such as Picasso and Mondrian would later recognize his influence.
A major source of inspiration was Mount Sainte-Victoire, near his birthplace. This mountain range often appears in his work, with Cézanne abandoning classical perspective and creating depth through color contrasts. His innovative approach marked the transition from impressionism to cubism.
